New Digital Sign

The Dorr Township Library received it's new digital sign on Monday, November 14, 2011. It was a long 7 months without a sign, but we can now keep our community up to date on what's happening at the library in a very timely manner.

Our old sign was damaged in an accident in April, 2011. The insurance award was $7,192.70. After much discussion, the library board decided to choose a digital sign due to the ease of use and the handsome addition it would make to the community. It was also felt that we would not be given another opportunity to upgrade to a sign with the newest technology in the future. We chose a simple housing with mid-level pixels per inch and the total cost of the sign was $24,920. Applying the insurance money to that total left us with a balance of $17,727.40.  Dorr Township has been holding $26,205.40 in a fund for the library that is part of the 2000 millage dedicated to the construction, furnishing and equipping of the building. The library board has voted to draw on this fund to pay for the new sign, leaving a balance of $8,478.

The Dorr Township Library Board believes in using the funds available to the library in service to our community. We hope that you are as proud of our new sign as we are.

UPDATE 12/27/2011: A check of the invoices for the new library sign discovered that on the final bill, the library had been charged sales tax when it is tax exempt as a government agency. $1,463.40 was refunded to the library, bringing the total cost of the sign down to $24,742.00. The refund will be set aside to use for furnishing or equipping the library at a later date.
